What's New

“On my first day”

messages about starting school from kindergarten and year one students is now available

Over 1180 kindergarten and year one students across the ACT recently participated in a children’s consultation on starting school.  The consultation aimed to hear children’s views on what is was like to start school and what they thought children starting school needed to know about school. The artwork and messages contributed by children across the ACT have been collated into a book called “On my first day.” The publication is a useful resource for children starting school and their families.

The book can be accessed on the publications page. Alternatively a copy can be mailed to you by emailing children@act.gov.au.

Inaugural Picture of ACT Children and Young People 2011 Launched

To improve the monitoring of children’s health, wellbeing, learning and development the ACT Government has produced the A Picture of ACT’s Children and Young People 2011 report.

This is the first report in the ACT that collates multiple data sets about children and young people in the ACT and is an important step in building Canberra as a child friendly city.

This report provides a conceptual map of outcomes and indicators relating to the health, wellbeing, learning and development of children and young people. These indicators and outcomes have been specifically selected to reflect the ecology of childhood. They measure the key protective and risk factors and other known factors that may be impacting on children and young people’s health and wellbeing in the ACT.

The report can be accessed on the publications page.
