Community Network Forums

The aim of the ACT Children’s Plan Community Network Forums is to share information, strengthen networks, and provide collaborative opportunities for both government and community workers in the child and family sectors.

The forums are organised by a sub-committee of the ACT Children’s Plan Interdepartmental Committee. For each new forum, organisations and individuals with particular expertise, passion and experience in the chosen topic, are invited to become partners to assist with the planning the next forum.

Approximately 80 service providers from both government and non-government agencies attend each session and past evaluations show a high level of satisfaction. Participants also provide suggestions for future topics and improvements for future events.

Previous Community Network Forums include:

Connected Communities for Children

In February 2007, the forum explored how services can put a community development perspective into their work with families. The forum was organised through a partnership between Communities for Children (Northside Community Service), Association for the Welfare of Child Health, Child and Family Centre (Tuggeranong) and Schools as Communities.
The aim of this forum was to highlight the importance of working to connect parents with their community:

  • to build resilience within families;
  • to build social and support networks; and
  • to reduce isolation
